Howdy Folks. From the looks of things you have found your way from your home and crossed the line into New York County.
New York County is a small part on the map of American music and was established to foster and promote artists in the greater New York area who have dedicated their careers and creativity to developing the craft of American roots rock music and continuing its legacy for the next generation.
We like to think of roots rock as music that combines the heritage of rock, blues and country, which has prospered on the American musical landscape, into new and exciting sounds.
Our next showcase of the fall will be held Saturday March 25 at the Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn NY. We will have a great evening of music featuring local talents who are rapidly becoming established names in the community.
While you visit with us, we invite you to learn more about the performers and get acquainted with their music on the Bands page.
Our host Hank's Saloon also welcomes you into their home where you will find additional information about the venue and their calendar of upcoming events.
We are working to organize more events and we hope that you will return here often for updates regarding future roots rock showcases.

The New Heathens are set to release their first album, "Heathens Like Me" which encapsulates all of the elements of this New York City quintet's fiery live performances and skilled songwriting.
Recorded and produced at Cowboy Technical Services studio in Brooklyn, the gritty, eclectic mix of rock, country, folk and Psychedelia is heard on this debut in tunes like sing-along rockers "Getaway Baby," and the ballad "When She's Wasted."
The New Heathens was formed in early 2005 by musicians brought together from as far apart as Missoula Mont. and Germany by their common love of music steeped in the American traditions of blues, folk, country and rock 'n' roll. Singer Nate Schweber's melody lines are set to the music of guitar duo Domenick Tiziano and Butch Phelps while the rhythm section of bassist Dan Ambrico and drummer Uwe Petersen provides the band's solid foundation. WHISPERADO, from Brooklyn and Queens, NY, has rapidly become one of New York City's pre-eminent roots-rock/Americana bands, playing "straight-up rootsy rock that sounds straight outta Memphis" (Time Out New York). Whisperado has just released its first recording, "Some Other Place," a six-song EP about the American essentials: bowling, capitalism, and demanding women. Equal parts heart and humor, the band tells it like it, unfortunately, is, but with crowd-pleasing high spirits that keep 'em coming back for more.
| Whisperado formed about three years ago when bassist and songwriter Jon
Sobel realized that it would be cool to have a band called Whisperado.
He called his old buddy, drummer David Mills, whom he'd worked with in
an early version of Halley DeVestern's band, called Halley and the
Highboys. After the reunited rhythm section tried working with a couple
of guitarists who didn't quite fit the bill, it occurred to Jon that
guitarist Patrick Nielsen Hayden, with whom he had played in Lori
Behrman's band, had a style and sensibility that would mesh perfectly
with the songs Jon was writing.
|
Patrick joined the band, along with fiddler Johnny Walker. When Walker left to seek his fortune in Nashville, Whisperado solidified into the present trio format and has just released its debut EP, "Some Other Place," on Bagel&Rat Records.

Coppersonic's new CD (release date October, 2006), "Songs from the County Line" was recorded at Retromedia in Red Bank NJ by Paul Ritchie (What About Frank). The music clearly reflects the band's musical roots and features performances by a group that has hit their stride as a band and as individual players.
Based in New York, Coppersonic was founded by bassist/singer John Truelove and guitarist John Carini in early 2002. Truelove is originally from Virginia and he brings a definitive country flavor to the band's sound as evidenced by the distinctive southern accent in his singing voice. A native of Long Island, John Carini developed an articulate and very musical style of guitar playing that has its roots in Hendrix and is supplemented by classical training. Completing the line up is John Hummel, a drummer who echoes the sounds of the great 1970s power drummers.
Since the band's formation, Coppersonic has released a full-length debut CD "Coppersonic", performed extensively in the eastern US from Vermont to North Carolina, made television appearances and have been heard on national and international radio.
